Technical Info

Being an online channel, Outdoors TV is dependent upon the individual performance of each computer used to view its programmes. What this means in simple terms is that there are minimum performance requirements for computers, in order to be able to watch Outdoors TV programmes in the manner to which they are intended.

To watch programmes on Outdoors TV, a broadband service with reasonable speed (around 2-8mbs) is needed. Slower broadband speeds may still be able to deliver content, depending on the level of traffic at the time. Dial up modems are unsuitable given that all programmes are streamed, rather than downloaded.

To enable the widest audience for Outdoors TV, we’re hosting all programmes on 'You Tube', giving you the opportunity to select low or high quality play out to suit your needs. All programmes are embedded within the Outdoors TV site though, so you won’t be redirected somewhere else. You will need Adobe's 'Flash Player' installed though (most computers come with 'Flash' pre-loaded). If you do not have Adboe 'Flash' installed, it can be easily & safely downloaded from : http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Asuming you have broadband, it is a very good idea to use a cabled connection, as this will normally have a higher transfer rate than most wireless connections & will therefore give you better video performance. Slower transfer rates could mean that the video occasionally stutters or jumps during playback, as the computer tries to catch up with the stream.

There will also be performance issues completely outside of your control or Outdoors TV's. There will be times of the day or week when internet traffic is particularly heavy. There will also be global incidents or other events that cause a peak in internet use. On these occasions video streams can suffer more than far simpler text based content.

If you do experience performance dips during these times, don't forget that Outdoors TV programmes remain available for at least a month, so it may be worth returning at another time to watch.
