Devizes to Westminster 2009 - Part One The Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Race is one of the world's toughest endurance races. Canoeists paddle 125 miles non-stop from Devizes in Wiltshire (UK) to Westminster in London, with faster crews making it in under 20 hours. Along the way, paddlers must portage more than 75 locks & must reach Teddington, around 17 miles from the finish, at exactly the right time to catch the ebbing high tide. If they miss the high tide window they are not allowed to proceed, which can cost them almost 10 hours! This documentary gives an overview of the race & follows the progress of a number of crews, including winners Owen Peake & Dan Seaford. It also features the return of the crew who set the 30 year old course record - Tim Cornish & Brian Greenham. Presented by Matt Thornton Brown, this programme is a great insight into this remarkable event & shows any paddlers planning to enter, exactly what they can look forward to!!
